Hair Health & Beauty Brand

Setup

A direct-to-consumer hair health brand — a shampoo-format topical built around a follicle-clog mechanism for women experiencing thinning, shedding, and visible scalp — came to SkyHouse with a validated product and zero meaningful ad scale. Nine months later, it was running $804K/month in Meta spend at profitable ROAS.

Summary

The offer launched at under $76K/month in late 2025 and spent most of early 2026 testing angles at controlled budgets — with January dipping to 0.86x ROAS. The offer found profitability in April (1.45x ROAS on $124K) and then scaled to $529K in July and $804K in August. The AI-powered lander workflow — confirmed running a 100% hit rate on this offer by August — was the structural advantage that made the scale sustainable.

Challenge

  • Crowded Market, Generic Positioning: The women's hair-loss supplement and topical space is saturated with minoxidil alternatives, collagen supplements, and thickening shampoos. The offer needed a creative lane that was both differentiated and immune to direct-response fatigue.
  • Early ROAS Volatility: January 2026 returned 0.86x ROAS on $100K spend — operating at a loss. The core question was whether the offer could hold profitability at scale or only on warm audiences.
  • No Structured Angle Hierarchy: Early testing lacked a documented framework for which hooks generated the strongest top-of-funnel signal.
  • Lander Iteration Bottleneck: Building and testing new landers on the traditional agency workflow was too slow to match the creative testing cadence.

Approach

The SkyHouse research package identified six primary entry points, ranked by buyer psychographic strength:

  • The part-line moment — visible scalp exposure as the trigger
  • The drain scoreboard — hair-in-drain as daily evidence of loss
  • No supplement bottle — routine simplicity vs. pill fatigue
  • Shampoo skeptic — "another product that probably won't work"
  • Less shedding first — leading with the relief metric, not the growth promise
  • Hair down again — aspirational vanity outcome as the close

Two-track testing across the scale phase: Track A (scale) ran proven creative batches via CBO Advantage+ at full budget. Track B (discovery) tested new angles at controlled ABO budgets — 3–5 new angles per week.

The AI-powered lander workflow produced 20 landers in 4 hours with a 100% hit rate — replacing a multi-day human copywriting cycle with a same-day AI-assisted build. This meant every winning angle got a dedicated landing page within the same day, keeping lander velocity matched to creative velocity.

What We Learned

In a crowded category, the creative angle that scales is always the one that meets the buyer where she actually is — not where the brand wants her to be. Leading with the drain, the part line, the brush, and the routine — not the clinical mechanism — was the insight. But the structural advantage was the lander workflow: being able to build 20 landers in 4 hours meant every winning angle got a dedicated landing page within the same day. Creative velocity matched by lander velocity.
